Vegas, from Venezuela, is trying to become the first three-peat champion at a PGA Tour event since Steve Stricker at the John Deere Classic from 2009-11. ... The event will move next year to June 6-9, the week before the U.S. Open. ... Pat Fletcher (1954) was the last Canadian to win the country's national championship. Adam Hadwin (No. 55) is the top-ranked Canadian in the field this week. He missed the cut last year as Mackenzie Hughes was the top-finishing Canadian with his tie for 32nd. ... No. 1 Dustin Johnson, No. 4 Brooks Koepka and No. 11 Tommy Fleetwood of England lead the list of 12 players ranked inside the top 50 who are in the field. Johnson, who is endorsed by RBC, also leads the FedExCup standings. ... There are four weeks until the FedExCup playoffs, which begin with the top 125 players in the standings. Sergio Garcia, who is at No. 132, has entered the Canadian Open for the first time since 2001 after missing the cut at The Open Championship last week. ... Arnold Palmer registered his first PGA Tour victory at the Canadian Open in 1955. ... Jack Nicklaus designed Glen Abbey and was a seven-time runner-up in the event, which he never won.

Karrie Webb, who set a course tournament record with her 6-under 65 in the first round last year, is playing on a sponsor's invite, as are Paula Creamer, Scotland's Vikki Laing and Japan's Mika Miyazato. ... Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn leads the money list ($1,797,765), scoring average (69.522), the Rolex Player of the Year race (150 points), the Race to the CME Globe (2,654 points) and most top-10 finishes (10).

St. Andrews will play host to the event for the first time since it began in 1987. ... The field includes seven players who have won the Claret Jug in The Open Championship. ... Germany's Langer is a three-time winner of the Senior Open Championship and holds the record with 10 career major victories on the Champions tour. He made the cut and tied for 24th at The Open Championship at Carnoustie last week. ... England's Nick Faldo (1990 champion, T7 in 1978, T6 in 1984) and Fred Couples (T4 in 1984, 6th in 2000, T3 in 2005) are the only players in the field with three top-10 finishes in Open Championships played at St. Andrews.
