SPRINGFIELD
Memorial Physician Services has renamed its virtual-care service to
MemorialNow and has extended the service to include some children
between 1 and 17 years old.
Launched in 2016 as MemorialMD SmartVisit, MemorialNow is a secure,
internet-based service to treat non-emergency illnesses and
injuries.
When the virtual-care service launched, it was open to any adult
whether they were a Memorial Physician Services patient or not.
MemorialNow has expanded its coverage to include children from 1 to
17 years old who are established patients with a Memorial Physician
Services physician and have been seen within the past year.
“While the name and the app are new, MemorialNow provides the same
quick, convenient and personal service our patients have come to
expect from us,” said Travis Dowell, vice president of Memorial
Physician Services.
MemorialNow is fully staffed by Memorial Physician Services, an
affiliate of Memorial Health System. Local nurse practitioners will
respond within one hour to consumers who access the service during
its operating hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, including weekends
and holidays.
Current patients can download the new app by searching MemorialNow
in the Apple Store or Google Play store. Their usernames and
passwords from the MemorialMD SmartVisit app have been transferred
to the new app so there’s no need to create new login information
once the app is downloaded.

“If parents or guardians have already linked their name, date of birth and
Social Security number to their child’s medical record, their child’s profile
will be linked automatically to their profile,” Dowell said. “If eligible, their
child’s name will appear on the Getting Started page when they log in with their
existing username and password to start a MemorialNow visit.”
MemorialNow can diagnose hundreds of minor symptoms. Some of the more common
conditions treated through MemorialNow include cold and flu, urinary tract
infections, sore throats, minor burns and cuts, skin rashes and ear, skin and
eye infections in adults, as well as cough and cold, croup, swimmer’s ear, pink
eye, rash and sore throat in children. If requested, absentee slips are provided
for school and work on the day of service.
MemorialNow is not appropriate for moderate to severe medical problems or for
medical emergencies. The service costs $40. Patients are not charged unless a
diagnosis and treatment plan can be made.
To date, the average visit has lasted less than 15 minutes. If a patient
communicates after business hours, they will receive a response the following
morning.
