Obituary
Nelson Bernard Newby, age 72,
peacefully returned to Our Lord and Savior on May
30, 2018 at Largo Medical Center.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Kimberle, son
Timothy (Tara) Newby, Grandson Alex Newby, Sister
Doris (Newby) Higdon, brother Howard Newby and is
preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Eileen
Newby and his sister Elnora (Newby) Wilson.
Nelson was born in Hartsburg, in 1945 the son of Lee
and Eileen Newby where he grew up and spent his
childhood years. He graduated from Hartsburg-Emden
High School in 1963. He is a veteran of the Vietnam
War where he served from 1968 - 1969. Upon returning
from the war, he resumed working in Bloomington,
selling pianos and organs.
In November 1977, Nelson and his family moved to
Florida where he began his career as owner of
Central Music. As a Rodgers Instruments and Fratelli
Ruffatti Dealer providing digital and pipe organs,
his ministry of music to churches from California,
to Florida, to the Caribbean Islands has been
greatly enhanced. He loved the church, the church
music and had a special passion for the organ.
Nelson was a member of St.John’s
Lutheran Church in Hartsburg, and most recently
became a member of Anona United Methodist Church in
Largo, FL.
Nelson was a larger-than-life personality with an
infectious sense of humor, as friends and family
will attest. He cherished his friends and their
friendship all the way back to childhood and will be
greatly missed by everyone. |
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 12 from 5:00- 7:00 pm. The
funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. Both will take
place at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hartsburg, IL. He will be interred with a
Military Honor Guard immediately following the funeral at Hartsburg Union
Cemetery.
Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care. After the
interment, there will be a luncheon at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
There will also be a Celebration of Life Service in Florida on Friday, June 15
at 6:00 p.m. at Anona United Methodist, 13233 Indian Rocks Rd., Largo, FL 33774.
Flowers may be sent to St. John’s Lutheran or Anona United Methodist Church. If
you prefer, memorials may be sent to the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. In the
Memo line state “In memory of Mr. Nelson Newby - Cancer Support Group”.
