Jefry Marte had four hits and
Mike Trout and Justin Upton each had three to lead the Los Angeles
Angels to a 9-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals Monday night at
Angel Stadium.
The Angels trailed 5-2 in the fifth inning but scored once in the
fifth and three times in both the sixth and eighth innings to win
for the third time in their last four games.
The game was 6-6 entering the eighth before Trout's RBI single put
the Angels ahead for good. Upton and Albert Pujols added RBI singles
in the inning, all three runs charged to Royals reliever Tim Hill
(1-2).
Cam Bedrosian (2-1), one of five Angels relievers, picked up the
win. Blake Parker pitched the ninth and earned his fourth save.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single
by Mike Moustakas, but the Angels matched the run in the bottom of
the inning on Andrelton Simmons' sacrifice fly.
Alcides Escobar and Jon Jay each had an RBI single in the second
inning, giving Kansas City a 3-1 lead. Marte singled to lead off the
Angels' half of the second inning and eventually scored on an error
by Royals left fielder Alex Gordon, cutting Kansas City's lead to
3-2.
It stayed that way until the fifth, when Royals right fielder Jorge
Soler doubled in two runs for a 5-2 lead before the Angels rallied.
