North to south, east to west, it was all the best in at the Pigs and Swigs Festival on Saturday

[June 04, 2018]  For the early birds, Saturday’s lower temperatures were just right for a pleasant ‘Run Hog Wild’ 5K. At 8 a.m. roughly 85 participants came out and enjoyed the event hosted by the Lincoln Park District.

Then later in the morning and going well into the night there was certainly plenty to see this year during the Pigs & Swigs Festival held in downtown regions of Lincoln.

The streets were lined with food vendors and barbecue grills on every block and the spicy sweet smoke piqued taste buds.

Shoppers in Scully Park walked through several tents as part of a flea market, where children played in bounce houses and petted animals at a petting zoo exhibit.

A bags tournament was held on the Historic Downtown Courthouse Square as part of the Wine and Craft Beer side of the festival.

Saturday was also the second day of the Dock Dogs competition, where dogs and their handlers competed to see which dog could retrieve a toy the quickest or jump the farthest, with a pool of water in front of them.

There were also multiple musicians popping up along the square, including local bluegrass musicians Danny Tackett, Polly Sampson and Jimmy Birkey; Tom Ricker and Bruce Bergethon playing the guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and the fiddle; Dave Berchtold from Minier; and Brian Stear, and Bradford Walsh from Mount Pulaski.
