“Mrs. Abraham Lincoln – A Vindication” will be presented at Elkhart Dinner Lecture, June 29th

[June 11, 2018]   “Mrs. Abraham Lincoln- A Vindication” by Rev. Dr. Malcolm Shotwell, will be the June 29th lecture offered by the Elkhart Historical Society at the Gillett Chapel on Elkhart Hill. The doors will open at 4:45 pm and the performance will begin promptly at 5:30 pm. Please note, the lecture comes before the dinner, and remember the 1890’s Chapel has no bathroom facilities.

Last July Dr. Shotwell presented a dramatic monologue on “Our Neighbors, the Lincolns; A Clergyman Remembers.” He comes again as he did then, in the character of the Rev. N. W. Miner. This captivating portrayal of Rev. Dr. Noyes W. Miner will be presented as a dramatic monologue in the beautiful setting of the Gillett Chapel on Elkhart Hill, followed by dinner in the village at the Wild Hare Café in the Horsefeathers shop.

The June 29 lecture will include a paper written by Dr. Miner of his feelings on the lack of respect and recognition for the wife of our 16th president, as well as reflections on Mr. Lincoln’s death and funeral. In Dr. Miner’s opinion, “no woman in the whole country has been more misunderstood and misrepresented…than the wife of our martyred president.”

The menu being offered is Beef Bourguignon or Coq au vin. The cost of the evening will include the meal, lecture, and $10 that will go to the Elkhart Historical Society to defray costs.
