[June 29, 2018]   Easterseals Central Illinois is proud to announce the opening of an Autism Learning Center in Bloomington! The center opened in early June and is already at full capacity.

The Autism Learning Center provides Comprehensive Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Services along with Speech and Occupational Therapies for children with autism in a pre-school type setting. The program address all of the core features of autism as well as commonly co-occurring issues such as challenging behavior and deficits in daily living skills and cognitive functioning. Each child receives direct 1:1 therapy with opportunities for small group instruction so that they can learn to be “ready to learn” in a regular educational environment.

“We really focus on identifying the strengths and preferences of every child, and then little by little building on those strengths to help children become more independent and able to cope with daily life, which can be quite challenging for children with autism,” said Dr. Jamie Severtson, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and VP of Behavioral Health for Easterseals Central Illinois. “We want kids to have a positive experience while we help them grow and succeed.”

ABA is a science of behavior with a goal of making socially significant improvements in people’s lives. ABA as it applies to autism is the most evidence-based intervention available. Comprehensive and Intensive ABA services can change the trajectory for children with autism, and those improvements can last a life time.

This is the second Autism Learning Center opened by Easterseals Central Illinois. The Peoria Autism Learning Center was opened in 2012 and has had approximately 53 students go through the program.
