Obituary
Richard Cotter Bumba, 77, of
Bloomington, died suddenly on February 13, 2018. He
was born December 3, 1940, in Chicago, to Edward and
Alicia Cotter Bumba, and married Ellen Rich Bumba on
March 29, 1966. An educator for over 34 years, Rich
served as a teacher and school administrator in
Amboy, IL, before retiring in 1997 as a
superintendent in Lincoln. He earned a Bachelor’s
degree from Western Illinois University; Master’s
degree from the University of Illinois, and
Certificate of Advanced Study from Northern Illinois
University.
Rich was a great storyteller who regularly “held
court” with all who were blessed to know him. He
never met a stranger and enjoyed the simple
pleasures found in spending time with friends and
family. In the end, he had few regrets and felt his
life was truly blessed. Rich was a loving brother,
husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather,
and will be greatly missed by his large family and
wonderful friends.
He is survived by his siblings: Edward (Diane) Bumba
of St. Louis, MO; Donna (Kent) Smith of Palm Desert,
CA; Bob (Kalah) Bumba of Salinas, CA; and Ron
(Leslie) Bumba of New Hampton, IA; and his five
children: Scott (Lynn) Bumba of Hoffman Estates;
Ronda (Colvin) Lewis of Griffin, GA; Jenny Bumba of
Dixon; Alicia (Kenny) Haller of Chicago; and
Jonathan (Cynthia) Bumba of Austin, TX. |
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Morgan
Spaeth, Jessica (Drew) Gibbs, Cheyenne (Joseph) Lavallie, Brett
Lewis, Paige Lewis, Ethan Haller, Grayson Bumba, Zander Bumba,
Jeremy Meaker, Jessica Meaker, Jennifer (Jose) Flores; and five
great-grandchildren. Rich was preceded in death by his beloved wife
and his parents.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives for a celebration
of Rich's life on April 7, 2018, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and
12:00 p.m. at Westminster Village, 2025 East Lincoln Street, in
Bloomington.
