Alex Downing named February LTEC Student of the Month

LINCOLN

Alex Downing, son of Terry & Bambi Downing, was named the February Student of the Month for the Culinary Arts Program at Lincolnland Technical Education Center. Alex is a senior at Lincoln Community High School.

Ms. Brenda Silano, instructor, says that Alex is an exemplary student and is very detailed oriented. "Alex is always the first to volunteer when there is a job to do and I know when he completes it will be done right and will exceed expectations. Alex is very conscientious and detailed in the preparation and execution of what he making. He is an outstanding cook and is always ready for a challenge."

His group won first place in the pasta competition with an original recipe. Alex always comes prepared to class and is ready to cook and try new recipes and techniques. Ms. Silano says it is a pleasure to have Alex in her foods & nutrition and culinary arts class.

Alex is a member of the LCHS Boys Swim Team, Aqua Lynx Swim Club, Writing Club, and Student Leadership Team at Jefferson St. Christian Church. Alex was the Captain his junior year and MVP his sophomore year of the LCHS Swim Team.

Alex plans to attend Lincoln College in the fall and will be a member of their swim team.

Alex received a $50 from the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln who sponsors this award and honored him at a noon luncheon.
