[March 09, 2018]  Seth Jones scored 59 seconds into overtime to finish with one goal and two assists, and Thomas Vanek added two goals as the Columbus Blue Jackets rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night in Columbus.

Artemi Panarin and Pierre-Luc Dubois got the assists for Jones, a defenseman who now has 11 goals this season.

The Blue Jackets have won three straight, and the newly-acquired Vanek gave them the offense they wanted when acquiring him from Vancouver on Feb. 26. He scored twice during a four-goal run that turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead. That marked the first points Vanek scored since joining the team.

Colorado was coming off of two straight overtime losses heading into the game.

Bruins 3, Flyers 2

Brad Marchand scored his team-leading 29th goal with 22 seconds remaining in the third period to send host Boston past Philadelphia.

Marchand poked home a loose puck after David Pastrnak had thrown it on net in front of the crease. The goal was reviewed by NHL officials in Toronto for goaltender interference, but the call was upheld.

Riley Nash (13 goals) and Brian Gionta (1) each had goals as Boston stretched its winning streak to five games. Tuukka Rask made 31 saves in his return for the Bruins after missing the previous two games with a minor injury.

Jets 3, Devils 2

Patrik Laine's first-period goal extended a pair of streaks for the teenager and gave Winnipeg a lead it never relinquished in a victory over host New Jersey.

Laine has scored at least one goal in each of the last four games, all of which the Jets have won, and has a point in 10 straight games, a stretch in which Winnipeg has gone 8-2-0.

Joel Armia and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck recorded 41 saves. Kyle Palmieri and Nico Hischier scored for the Devils. Goalie Keith Schneider made 21 saves.

Golden Knights 4, Red Wings 0

Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his third shutout, Alex Tuch and Cody Eakin scored two goals apiece and Vegas silenced host Detroit.

Fleury stopped 28 shots as the Golden Knights righted themselves after losing four of their last five games. Eakin also recorded an assist, as did William Karlsson, Tomas Nosek and Brad Hunt.

Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots for the Red Wings, who have gone winless in their last five games. Detroit was blanked for the first time since falling to Buffalo 1-0 on Oct. 24.

Lightning 5, Rangers 3

Anthony Cirelli recorded his first career three-point game with a goal and two assists as host Tampa Bay cruised to victory over New York.

Playing in his fourth career game, Cirelli scored Tampa Bay's third goal and assisted on its second goal and fourth goal.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves and became the first goaltender to reach 40 wins.

Sabres 4, Senators 3 (SO)

Robin Lehner made 37 saves through regulation and overtime, then denied two of the three opponents he faced in the shootout as Buffalo completed a comeback to beat host Ottawa.

Jacob Josefson scored the shootout winner. Ottawa's Matt Duchene and Buffalo's Sam Reinhart also scored in the shootout. It was the Sabres' first shootout game since the season opener.

Reinhart had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Marco Scandella and Scott Wilson also had goals for the Sabres. Ryan Dzingel scored twice and Thomas Chabot once for the Senators, who got 31 saves from Craig Anderson.

Panthers 5, Canadiens 0

Florida tied a franchise record with its seventh straight home win, defeating Montreal.

 [to top of second column]

Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad, Micheal Haley, Evgenii Dadonov and Vincent Trocheck scored as the Panthers improved to 14-3-1 since Jan. 30, making them the hottest team in the NHL during that span. That spurt has vaulted the Panthers into playoff contention.

Huberdeau's goal was his 21st, his career best for a single season. It also was Florida's 17th power play goal in the past 17 games.

Predators 4, Ducks 2

Nashville added one more win to GM David Poile's record 1,320 total while stretching its franchise-record winning streak to 10 games, getting goals from Craig Smith, Ryan Johansen, Austin Watson and Viktor Arvidsson in a win over visiting Anaheim.

Pekka Rinne earned his 37th win with 31 saves. Only Rickard Rakell cracked the code, scoring at 6:04 of the third period on a tap-in goal at the left post off a terrific setup by Corey Perry, then notching his 30th of the season at 16:35 on a wrister off Ryan Getzlaf's 40th helper.

That was all for the Anaheim offense as it suffered just its second regulation loss in 10 games, becoming the latest team to fall victim to Nashville's balance.

Hurricanes 3, Blackhawks 2

Sebastian Aho scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, and Carolina held on to beat host Chicago.

Jaccob Slavin and Justin Williams also scored as Carolina snapped a two-game losing streak.

Chicago lost for the fourth time in its past six games. Tomas Jurco and Patrick Sharp scored for the Blackhawks.

Sharks 2, Blues 0

Mikkel Boedker snapped San Jose's 0-for-29 power play drought with a goal at 12:12 of the third period, snapping a scoreless tie in a win over visiting St. Louis.

Tomas Hertl iced the outcome with an empty-netter with 15 seconds to play, his 16th goal of the season. Martin Jones bagged his fourth shutout of the season with only 16 saves, only two of which occurred in the third period.

The Blues, who got 34 saves from Jake Allen, have won just once since Feb. 9.

Kings 3, Capitals 1

Jeff Carter led the way with a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick stopped 25 shots as Los Angeles beat visiting Washington.

Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin was held off the scoresheet and remains two goals shy of his quest for 600 career markers. The Capitals have dropped their first two games during a three-game road trip through California.

After Carter scored in the first period, Jakub Vrana replied for Washington in the second period. Trevor Lewis scored what proved to be the winner later in the second, and Kyle Clifford added an empty-net goal.

Oilers 2, Islanders 1 (SO)

Connor McDavid scored the winning goal in the third round of a shootout as Edmonton rallied to beat visiting New York.

McDavid had an eventful night, getting stopped five times by Islanders goalie Christopher Gibson before scoring a fluky goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation to tie the game. He also was stopped by Gibson on a penalty shot with two minutes left in overtime on a similar move to his winning tally in the shootout.

Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored in the shootout. Thomas Hickey scored in regulation for the Islanders and former Oiler Jordan Eberle scored in the opening round of the shootout for New York. The Islanders fell to 0-5-3 in their past eight games.
