The Lincoln College Softball team had a rough day two of their spring trip. The Lady Lynx saw two games get out of hand early and were unable to recover in time to avoid taking their first two losses of the season.

In their first game of the day, LC took a 13-4 loss to PSU Greater Allegheny. Lincoln struggled on the mound early, allowing 12 of PSU's 13 runs to cross home plate in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Lynx lost despite out-hitting PSU Greater Allegheny six to two. LC came out strong and got things started in the first inning as sophomore Kiya Harper (Decatur) tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring fellow sophomore Ali Peden (Kincaid). LC scored again in the second, but could not get the bats working again until the top of the 5th. In that inning, Peden made contact for a fly ball to center field that made it to the wall resulting in an inside the park homerun. Two batters later, Harper hit a line drive shot to left center which also resulted in an inside the park homerun.

Kiya Harper took the loss for Lincoln College allowing one hit and six runs. Sophomore Cassidy Sanneman (Henry) come in as relief and lasted three and a third innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out two.

Despite the lopsided loss, Coach Tara Morris saw reason for optimism. "We faced our first, of many I would suspect, days of adverse conditions while on the field,” she said. “The rain really wreaked havoc on our pitching performances and we just couldn't come back. You take away PSU's first inning and we win, 4-1. We walked 11 batters on the day; that definitely won't win games".

In their second game of the day, LC faced Lackawanna College and again the Lady Lynx fell behind early. Lincoln pitchers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Lackawanna and the result was a 10-1 defeat.

"Some days the offense will struggle but games can't be won when we only have three hits and one run over five innings. We were making contact with the ball but it wasn't solid resulting in several fly-outs on the day," said Coach Tara Morris.

Cassidy Sanneman took the loss allowing nine hits and ten runs over four innings.

Coach Morris was proud of Sanneman’s effort. "Cassidy really showed heart today on the mound. She came in and pitched most of the game against PSU and then started and finished this game. The coaching staff asked a lot of her today and she proved to be able to handle it despite what the results show."

Sophomore Skylar Doughtery (Chatham) lead the offense for Lincoln, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

"We have Wednesday off and I am hoping that the day off will give us some time to recoup as many of the girls are dealing with soreness,” said Morris. “We hit the field again on Thursday at 1pm to face Cumberland County College, New Jersey.”
