The Lincoln College Softball team won twice and lost once to finish
up their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week.
On Thursday, LC defeated Cumberland County College of New Jersey 2-1
thanks to a walk-off single from sophomore Ali Peden (Kincaid). The
game was tied at one with the Lady Lynx batting in the bottom of the
seventh when Ali Peden singled on a 1-0 count, scoring the winning
run.
The pitching was strong on both sides in this game as Lincoln
sophomore Cassidy Sanneman (Henry) went seven innings, allowing one
run on six hits, striking out four and walking one.
Lincoln College managed eight hits in the game. Sophomore Mallory
Jones (Broadlands), sophomore Kiya Harper (Decatur), and Peden each
collected two hits.
“The defense looked sound today and twice we stopped Cumberland from
scoring when they had bases load with zero or one out,” said LC
Coach Tara Morris. “Cassidy had a fantastic day on the mound and
kept her composure in some tough situations,” she added.
Lincoln matched up against Cumberland again on Friday morning and
this time they were able to control the game from start to finish
thanks to a dominating performance by starting pitcher Kiya Harper.
Harper threw five innings allowing zero runs on one hit. She struck
out five and issued no walks. LC’s offense was able to give Harper
plenty of support as Lincoln defeated Cumberland 8-0.
LC got things started in the first inning when two runs came in to
score on a wild pitch. In the fifth inning, freshman Maddie Power
and Mallory Jones both moved runners across the plate with RBIs as
Lincoln picked up four runs in the inning.

In the team’s final game of their trip, Lincoln lost the lead late
in a 7-3 defeat to Lackawanna College. The game was tied at two
until Lackawanna’s bats came alive in the top of the 6th to produce
six runs.
The Lady Lynx lost despite out-hitting Lackawanna seven to five. Ali
Peden and Abbi Buelow (Rockford) collected two hits apiece for
Lincoln College.
LC starting pitcher Kiya Harper took the loss. She lasted seven
innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out three
and walking one.
“Kiya came out this morning against Cumberland looking exceptional
so we made a late decision to go with her for game two and she did
not disappoint us despite the loss,” said Coach Morris.
The Lady Lynx come home from Myrtle Beach with a 4-3 record. Coach
Morris said, “I am very satisfied with our Spring Training play. I
can’t ask for anything more than to come home with a winning
record.”
The Lady Lynx will begin conference play March 17th at home against
Heartland Community College with 1pm and 3pm game times.
