Historically when observed, The Great Vigil of Easter, is the first
service of Easter. Rev. Quine invites you to join him as he ‘keeps
vigil’ from sunset on Saturday to sunrise on Easter Sunday.
Throughout the evening you are invited to come and go as you please.
The vigil is an adaptation of the ancient Paschal Vigil service and
consists of four parts: (1) The Service of Light, (2) The Service of
the Word, (3) The Service of the Baptismal Covenant, and (4) The
Service of the Table. Thus, we celebrate God's saving work in Christ
through the symbols of light, word, water, and the heavenly banquet.
We will complete our vigil and break our fast with a sunrise service
at 6:15 a.m.

"On the night that Jesus was betrayed..." How many times have
you heard those words before Communion on a Sunday morning? Join us
on March 29th at 6:30 p.m. as we explore and remember "the night
that Jesus was betrayed" by doing the kinds of things he and his
followers were doing that very night; eating dinner together,
worshipping, and (for the first time) eating the bread and drinking
from the cup that symbolized the new work that Jesus was bringing to
completion in his death and resurrection. If you'd like to be a part
of this night of food, worship, and Communion, please call
(217-732-2204) or email the church office (anita.miller@lincolnfirstumc.org)
no later than Wednesday, March 28th and let us know the total number
of people who will be joining in with you. When you contact us,
you'll be assigned a main-dish, side dish, or dessert to bring (and
share!) at the potluck style dinner.
