Giancarlo Stanton greeted former
manager Don Mattingly prior to the game, and he later delivered a
run-scoring single to help the New York Yankees beat the Miami
Marlins 8-5 on Sunday at Tampa, Fla., in his first preseason contest
against his former club.
Stanton won National League MVP honors for the Marlins last season
and was dealt to the Yankees during Miami's salary purge under new
ownership. He reached base three times on a single in the seventh
inning and two walks.
Greg Bird hit a two-run homer and Gary Sanchez belted a solo shot
for New York. Brian Anderson and Joe Dunand homered for the Marlins.

Travis d'Arnaud homered and drove in three runs and Noah Syndergaard
gave up one run in seven innings as New York defeated Baltimore at
Sarasota, Fla. Danny Valencia smacked a two-run homer for the
Orioles.

Carlos Gomez hit a two-run homer and Chris Archer allowed two hits
over 5 1/3 scoreless innings as Tampa Bay defeated Detroit at Port
Charlotte, Fla. Niko Goodrum hit a two-run blast for the Tigers.
Red Sox 2, Pirates (ss) 1
Mookie Betts had a run-scoring double and Andrew Benintendi homered
as Boston edged Pittsburgh at Bradenton, Fla. Adam Frazer had a
run-scoring single for the Pirates.
Blue Jays 5, Pirates (ss) 2
Justin Smoak drilled a two-run homer to help Toronto defeat
Pittsburgh at Dunedin, Fla. Starling Marte homered for the Pirates.
Twins 4, Phillies 3
Gregorio Petit hit a tiebreaking solo homer with two outs in the
bottom of the eighth inning as Minnesota edged Philadelphia at Fort
Myers, Fla. Jesmuel Valentin smacked a three-run homer for the
Phillies.
Cardinals 10, Nationals 0
Jose Martinez homered and had three RBIs as St. Louis trounced
Washington at Jupiter, Fla. Anthony Rendon had two of the Nationals'
three hits.
Braves 6, Astros 3
Stephen Gaylor lined a two-run triple and Kurt Suzuki also drove in
two runs to help Atlanta knock off Houston at West Palm Beach, Fla.
Carlos Correa went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Astros.
Brewers 7, Dodgers (ss) 3
Christian Yelich hit a solo homer and a two-run single as Milwaukee
defeated Los Angeles in Phoenix. Joc Pederson had two hits for the
Dodgers.

Athletics 14, White Sox 0
Matt Joyce hit two homers, Sheldon Neuse added one long ball and
they each drove in five runs as Oakland demolished Chicago in Mesa,
Ariz. White Sox starter James Shields allowed seven runs on eight
hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Angels 4, Rangers 2
Nick Tropeano struck out nine in 5 1/3 shutout innings as Los
Angeles topped Texas in Surprise, Ariz. Rangers starter Martin Perez
tossed five innings of one-run ball.
Reds 6, Diamondbacks 3
Amir Garrett allowed one hit in four scoreless innings to guide
Cincinnati past Arizona in Goodyear, Ariz. Scott Schebler and
Brandon Dixon homered for the Reds, while Kris Negron and Ketel
Marte each had two hits for the Diamondbacks.
Padres 2, Dodgers (ss) 1
Clayton Kershaw struck out eight and walked none over five shutout
innings, but Los Angeles fell to San Diego in Glendale, Ariz. Hunter
Renfroe and Freddy Galvis homered for the Padres.
Indians (ss) 11, Cubs (ss) 4
Eric Haase hit a grand slam to power Cleveland past Chicago in Las
Vegas. Ryan Court went deep for the Cubs.
Royals 11, Cubs (ss) 9
Frank Schwindel and Mike Moustakas both homered and drove in three
runs for Kansas City in a victory over Chicago at Mesa, Ariz. Trent
Giambrone had three RBIs for the Cubs.
Indians (ss) 16, Mariners 3
Yan Gomes smacked a grand slam and knocked in five runs to guide
Cleveland to a rout of Seattle in Peoria, Ariz. Mariners starter Rob
Whalen was pounded for nine runs (eight earned) in two-plus innings.
Giants 13, Rockies 0
Madison Bumgarner homered and tossed six innings of one-hit ball as
San Francisco blanked Colorado in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Rockies
managed a total of three hits off three Giants pitchers.
