NFL notebook: Ex-Dolphins C Pouncey agrees with Chargers

[March 20, 2018] Free-agent center Mike Pouncey has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Monday.

Pouncey's deal is worth $15 million, according to multiple reports.

Pouncey, 28, had played his entire career with the Miami Dolphins after being drafted 15th overall in 2011. He had a contract through the 2020 season but was released last week after declining to take a pay cut.

Pouncey has started all 93 games in which he's played and has been selected to three Pro Bowls.

--The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the 2018 NFL season by playing host to the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 6, according to multiple reports.

The NFL has yet to release its 2018 schedule.

The Eagles ended the Vikings' playoff run last season in a 38-7 romp in the NFC Championship Game on their way to the title.

--Carson Wentz, the Eagles' starting quarterback who went down with a severe knee injury in December, apparently posted to Instagram last week a video of himself throwing.

The video, captured in a tweet by ESPN, shows Wentz wearing a brace on his left knee and throwing from what amounts to a one-step dropback. The workout took place inside the Eagles' practice facility.

Wentz tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee in a game against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 10. At the time of his injury, he was a leading contender for NFL Most Valuable Player. Instead, Nick Foles took over and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history.

--The Houston Texans announced they officially signed free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu.

While the team did not disclose terms of the contract, multiple reports have it as a one-year deal worth $7 million.

Mathieu last week was released by the Cardinals, who would have owed him $19 million over the next two seasons had they picked up his option. That was part of a five-year, $62.5 million extension he signed prior to the 2016 season.

--The Jacksonville Jaguars will pay 24-year-old wide receiver Donte Moncrief as much as $11.6 million on the one-year deal he agreed to last week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Compensation update: Jaguars' WR Donte Moncrief signed a one-year, $9.6 million, fully-guaranteed contract that also contains another $2 million in incentives," Schefter tweeted

Moncrief made 30 catches in nine games in 2016, then 26 receptions for 391 yards in 12 games last season.

--Free-agent cornerback Orlando Scandrick signed a contract with the Washington Redskins, the team announced.

The club didn't disclose the terms, but NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the deal is for two years and worth a maximum of $10 million.

Scandrick agreed to the deal just two days after being released by the Cowboys, one of Washington's NFC East rivals. The 31-year-old spent 10 seasons with Dallas.

--Wide receiver Cody Latimer signed with the New York Giants, the team announced.

New York also re-signed defensive end Kerry Wynn and added cornerback B.W. Webb and defensive end Josh Mauro.

Latimer, who turns 26 in October, was drafted in the second round by the Denver Broncos in 2014. In 45 career games with the Broncos, including three starts, he had 35 catches for 445 yards and three scores.

--Defensive lineman Dominique Easley will be back with the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year deal, the team announced.

Easley, who missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL, gives the Rams depth on the defensive line. The team traded end Robert Quinn to the Dolphins this offseason, but defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh told Yahoo! Sports that he plans to make a free-agent visit to the Rams.

Terms of Easley's deal were not disclosed.

--The New England Patriots released linebacker Shea McClellin.

McClellin missed the entire 2017 season due to a concussion. The Patriots released McClellin with a failed physical designation, according to an ESPN report. The move reportedly frees up $2.35 million in salary cap space.

New England also officially announced the acquisition of receiver/returner Cordarrelle Patterson from the Oakland Raiders.

--The Buffalo Bills bolstered their offensive line by signing center Russell Bodine to a two-year contract and offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse to a one-year deal, the team announced.

Bodine, 25, started all 64 games in his four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals after being drafted in the fourth round in 2014 out of North Carolina. Only Travis Frederick (80 games) of the Cowboys has a longer active streak of starts at center.

Newhouse, 29, was released by the Raiders last week after starting 14 games last fall. He has started 70 games for four teams, primarily at right tackle.
