Hilltoppers Head Coach Joel Washko was pleased
with his team's ability to bounce back from a tough opening day
loss suffered last week.
"It was definitely a grind-it-out win for us," said Washko. "We
weren’t able to score until the 5th inning, but we were putting
good swings on the ball throughout the game. Solid defense and
outstanding pitching is what gave us an opportunity to win down
the stretch though. Logan DeRight did a great job of getting
ahead in the count and attacking hitters. Getting five runs in
the 7th inning was pretty big to give us a nice cushion. Drew
Martin’s triple and Tanner Farris’ two-run single were big hits
in the 7th. It was very nice for our young team to be on the
right side of a hard fought game early in the season, especially
coming off a rough season opener. We talked about putting the
loss to Okaw Valley behind us and starting fresh today and I am
proud of how the kids responded to that challenge."
