The Lincoln College Men’s Volleyball team came up short in a tough,
four-set loss at Lindenwood-Belleville University (NAIA) on
Wednesday evening (17-25, 26-24, 18-25, 18-25). Despite the setback,
the team was pleased to find out they had been placed at the top of
the most recent National Club Volleyball Federation (NCVF) Division
II poll.
The NCVF ranks the top 25 club volleyball teams in the nation in
three divisions. Lincoln moved up from #2 in the previous poll. This
is the first #1 ranking in program history for the Lincoln College
men’s team.
LC Coach Mark Tippett sees the ranking as a positive sign for his
players. Tippett said, “The guys have worked very hard to prepare
for this season and it has paid off with a lot of success so far.
The #1 ranking is a nice bit of recognition for what we have
accomplished.”
Against Lindenwood, The Lynx struggled to find consistency on
offense. Lincoln was able to side out efficiently most of the night,
but service errors and passing troubles kept the Lynx from gaining
much momentum.

“We did not pass the ball well tonight and didn’t help ourselves
much with the way we served,” said Coach Tippett. “It appeared to be
an even match after the second set, but we came out flat in set
three and got down by five early. We never really recovered from
that and it seemed to shake our confidence,” he added.
Freshman libero Joudiel Poveymirow (Puerto Rico) led LC in points
scored (8) and digs (21). Junior middle hitter Deantrius Coleman
(North Chicago) tied for the team lead in kills with 11. Coleman was
nearly unstoppable on the night as he collected his 11 kills on only
14 attempts. Sophomore rightside Charles Carter (Blue Island) was
able to match Coleman’s kill total and he was god for two blocks.
Junior setters Brian Orellana (Chicago) and Greg Scott (North
Chicago) combined for 48 set assists on the night.
LC (28-5) will look to get back on track Saturday at the St. Ambrose
JV Invitational Tournament. On Sunday, LC will play an exhibition
match at Bradley University at 11:00 AM. The match will be followed
by a free volleyball clinic for boys in 5th through 12th grade. For
