[March 27, 2018]   Starting on March 12, Shelter Insurance® will begin accepting entries for their 5th annual "Thankful for Our Communities" essay contest. Five winners of the contest will each receive a $5,000 grant for the charity of their choice and a $100 Visa® gift card for themselves.

To win, contestants must visit Shelter lnsurance.com/Thankful to enter their essays about what makes their communities special. Essays must be between 3,000 and 6,000 characters long (that's roughly 350-1,000 words), and contestants should encourage others to vote for their essay. The essay that receives the most votes will win one of the prizes. The next nine essays with the most votes will be submitted to a panel of Shelter judges, who will choose the four remaining winners. Entries will be accepted until March 30, 2018; voting ends April 6, 2018.

Shelter has always encouraged community involvement, and this contest gives people a chance to spotlight their communities, as well as the opportunity to make a large contribution to their favorite charity.

  • Haysville Education Foundation - Haysville, Kansas

The contest is a good opportunity to continue that tradition according to Frank Thompson, Vice President of Marketing. "This contest is always very well received and gives us the opportunity to help people point out the many positive aspects of their communities, find out what's important to the citizens of those communities, and help support those causes."
