The White Sox acquired Pinto from the
Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for international signing
bonus pool money. Pinto, a reliever, went 1-2 with a 7.89 ERA in
25 games for the Phillies last season.
Chicago assigned Pinto to Advanced Single-A Winston-Salem.
Rodon (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list,
retroactive to March 26. He was limited to just 12 starts last
season due to injuries and underwent shoulder surgery in
September. He went 2-5 with a 4.15 ERA.
At the time of his surgery, Rodon's recovery timetable was six
to eight months, meaning he might return as late as June.
The White Sox also placed catcher Kevan Smith (sprained left
ankle) on the 10-day disabled list, also retroactive to March
26. Smith batted .283 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 87
games last season.
Chicago purchased the contract of left-hander Hector Santiago,
who is on his second tour of duty with the club after winning a
job during spring training.
Santiago has a 40-46 record and 4.00 ERA in 189 career
appearances (130 starts) with the White Sox (2011-13), Los
Angeles Angels (2014-16) and Minnesota Twins (2016-17). He is
expected to serve Chicago as a long-relief option out of the
bullpen.
