The Rapids also sent $50,000 in general
allocation money to Minnesota, and received an international
roster spot in return.
Nicholson, 23, scored two goals in 20 matches (14 starts) with
Minnesota dating back to last season. He has one goal in eight
games this season.
Miller, 25, has played in 86 MLS matches but was sitting out
this season due to a dispute with new coach Anthony Hudson over
the type of defensive alignment being utilized.
"We wish Sam all the best in Colorado and thank him for his
contributions to the club," Minnesota United sporting director
Manny Lagos said in a statement. "Adding a quality, versatile
defender like Eric right now is important. We look forward to
building on key areas of our roster moving forward and this
allows us to do just that."
While Miller can help a struggling Minnesota defense that has
allowed 16 goals in eight matches, the Rapids hope Nicholson can
spruce up their offensive attack.
"Sam is a high-intensity player who looks to break lines and get
forward," Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a
statement. "He also has a very high soccer IQ, fits our system
very well, and will be a quality addition to our locker room. We
look forward to welcoming him to Colorado."
