LINCOLN
- On a beautiful Saturday evening in Lincoln, the Logan County
Courthouse was a showcase for finery as the Lincoln Community High
School Junior/Senior Prom Grand March took place on the north side
of the historic site.

The pre-prom event is a tradition in Lincoln that has
been ongoing for the past 29 years. It is an event where prom-goers
are stationed inside the courthouse, then at the appropriate time
they come out of the building and stand at the top of the steps
while being introduced to a large crowd on the lawn and in the
street.
This year those introductions were made by Joe Ryan with the
assistance of Lisa the Prize girl for WLCN Radio. The radio station
organizes the grand march each year, and also provides video of the
event that will be posted on their radio website.
What was missing this year was the Red Carpet event that has been
held for the past few years. According to Jim Ash and Jeff Maxwell
at the radio station, the prom committee decided that this year they
did not want to do a red carpet event.
At 3:30 p.m., the Pattie Deener Band with Greg Glick
filled one of the two patio areas on the south side of the
courthouse and entertained guests until just a few moments before
the grand march began. Guests started arriving early, with the
intention of nabbing a choice seat to watch the young people,
dressed to the nines as they descended the steps.

After the grand march, the prom night would be filled with fun,
food, dancing and much more. With a theme of “Rustic Romance,” the Lincoln
Banquet Center was nicely decorated for the evening and dinner was to be served
at 7 p.m.
Dancing and other activities began at 8 p.m.
The evening also included lots of opportunities for prizes as drawings were held
with a rule of “must be present to win” for items such as a television,
microwave, Cub and Cardinal jerseys, and much more.
There was also a big raffle with the GRAND grand prize being a $1,000
scholarship donated by Haji Patel, owner of the Lincoln Banquet Center.
In addition to dinner, dancing, raffles and prizes, there was also a photo
booth, games, and some really divine desserts.
