May is a month of change. Hopefully,
we see April’s snow showers leave! And as we flip
our calendars ahead, the weather warms, green leaves
and grass return, and we soon realize God is
blessing once again His beloved creation with life
and renewing!
May also brings other changes. For one, it’s the joy
of receiving a child home from college or the
military. For another, it’s that mixed bag of
emotions of realizing school is ending forever and
‘adulthood’ is becoming reality. Children are born;
jobs change; we cope with a loss we had not
expected; and we end up looking both ahead and back
and contemplate the preciousness of the days of our
lives.
God’s Word speaks to other changes we go through as
a Christian. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation. The old has passed away;
behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17. We
look back and see the wintery times of our lives
when our love was cold and feel the icicles of
regret hanging on us because we have sinned against
God and man. But through the grace of the Gospel, we
also look back to the good news of our Savior, who
took our sin upon Himself to redeem us. We see how
Jesus became man and has paid for every evil deed
we’ve done and given us the credit for His perfect
life.

When faith is created in our heart,
our old sinful nature is drowned and buried with
Christ. His blood was the April showers that washed
our guilt away and now new life springs up within us
and we grow to serve our Savior. This is the new
life of Faith and it is God who makes this change!
The key to weathering any change is this: learn to
see God’s hand in whatever you go through. If we can
see God’s hand, we know He is present in that
change. If we can see God’s hand, we see the nail
marks that show the depth of His love and that ours
is a God that saves – what shall we fear?! Whatever
change you are going through, see God in it all and
there you will find your peace!
