The results are in: The 2018 Logan County Track Meet was swept in 7A
competition by both the boys and girls of West Lincoln-Broadwell.
The Chester-East Lincoln boys took home the first place plaque for
8A competition and it was the Mount Pulaski Honeybears winning the
8A girls competition.
While Mount Pulaski Coach Sam Brown did not have any record-breaking
athletes at county this year, she did have several turn in great
personal records and she was extremely proud of her team's
performances.
Despite the wind being a huge factor facing standout track athlete
Cassidy Clark, the eighth-grader brought home first place in both
the shot put and discus. Clark also broke a MPGS record with a throw
of 32-5 in the shot put. Her throw of around 90' was nowhere near
her best in discus but good enough on Wednesday for the win with the
wind. Clark was disappointed but can look forward to state
competition this coming weekend. Undoubtedly she has a state record
in her sights.
As far as Clark goes, Coach Brown said, "She improves every meet."
As for the rest of the Honeybears, Delaney Howard and Delia Phillips
are leading the pack of impressive runners.
Delaney Howard of MPGS ran a 13.3 100m making that her personal
best, according to Coach Brown.
Delia Phillips also placed first in the 200m for MPGS.
The MPGS eighth grade track team won first in county last year, so
Coach Brown said, "It was on the girls' minds to take home the win
again. We have a strong team with some fast girls.
"Delaney holds down the 100m for us and Delia took third in that
event.
"Now for the 200m, it's the opposite. Delia ran that race
beautifully. As a track coach my favorite part of the day is
watching her run a curve and she does it well. Delaney is new to the
200m and I tell her, "Just stay on Delia's heels. We'll take the
points."

Mount Pulaski Honeybears win Logan County 8A Girls
Track title.
"Our 4x100 is a half a second behind Chester-East Lincoln," said
Coach Brown. The MPGS team here features Delia and Delaney and two
sixth graders, Alexis Wade and Grace Davis. "We're working hard to
catch CEL. All season we've come up slightly short taking 2nd
place."
Track is a passion of Brown's and she admits, "I wish there were two
of me to be able to run around and cheer on all the girls."
"This year's eighth grade team has one fifth-grader and I can't wait
to see what she brings in future years," continued Brown. She is
talking of 5th grader Summer Eskew. "She has a great stride and
endurance," added Brown. "We really make our girls team a team.
Track is so much more than individual, in my eyes at least."
Congratulations to all the teams that brought home hardware at the
