There was only one senior to recognize Monday afternoon at Schweitzer Field and she is a special one. Senior Kerstin Osborne has "toed the rubber" as Coach Darrin Worth has said many times, all season long and she has been a true work horse from that circle. In addition, her bat has carried the Lincoln Railers all season.

Osborne's last plate appearance with the Railers against Tri-Valley at Schweitzer Field.

Monday was no different. From the batter's box Osborne slugged a double and from the circle she tossed the complete seven innings. She gave up three runs on six hits and struck out three batters. She did not issue a single walk.

After the game, Coach Worth was also upbeat, calling it a really good game, and he had these nice words to say about his team leader.

"This is one of the most special senior nights," said Coach Worth. "I usually have mixed emotions during senior night. I love it and I don't. I love it because we are honoring the special senior that has done so much for this program, and I don't like it because I don't want to see Kerstin leave. I have been around Kerstin either coaching her or watching her play since she was in 10U ball. I have seen Kerstin grow as a softball player and as a person each year and she has become one of the best leaders that I have coached. Kerstin will do anything I ask of her. She has pitched every game this year and has never complained about it. She is a team player. She is the only senior and she helps the young players everyday to get better. I am going to miss Kerstin, but this is just the beginning of her journey. Kerstin will be playing at Lincoln College next year and her future looks bright for her."

The future of Lincoln Railer softball also looks bright, very bright. Freshman Jacey Cooper was a beast in the batter's box and she slugged three hits against Tri-Valley. Maccailey Metelko was impressive from the batter's box also as she went 2-for-3 from the plate. Metelko's RBI single drove in the Railers only run in the second inning.

Emily Paulus and Bayleigh Gillum also contributed hits as the Railers offense came up with eight hits.

The game was a heartbreaker on Senior Night though with Tri-Valley breaking a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning. A two-run double ended up being the game winner for Tri-Valley. Lincoln was shut down in the bottom of the seventh inning.

A sad ending to an emotional day for the Railers. Coach Worth mentioned how close he has always been to the Osborne family and with his own daughter, Sydney, singing the National Anthem prior to first pitch, a few folks got choked up. Especially Kerstin. She got a little emotional herself.

By the way, Sydney Worth did an amazing job singing and hopefully fans will get that treat again next season.

Senior Kerstin Osborne was presented with gifts and a cake following her last game at Schweitzer Field.

Despite Osborne taking the loss for Lincoln she held her head high following the game and gladly posed for pictures by her cake and presents. It's evident she will be missed greatly.

From softball player to prom queen and back to softball player, Osborne has had a busy senior year. No matter if it's a uniform or a fancy prom dress, she always wears a smile. Lincoln Daily News would like to say "Congratulations, Kerstin on a stellar Railer career and best wishes to you at Lincoln College."
