On Friday, May 4th the local D.A.R.E. programs hosted a pizza party for fifth grade students attending Lincoln schools.

The event was held at the Lincoln Park District. A large number of pizzas, along with other treats were brought into the ballroom at the recreation center. Kids and their teachers, along with several local police officers enjoyed a meal together then spent time on the indoor tennis courts participating in a variety of activities.

Kids enjoyed spending time with close friends, playing volleyball, basketball, or just hanging out having a good time together.

In one corner of the play area Karaoke was set up with the lights turned down. Several of the students enjoyed a time of singing and some dancing to the music.

The annual event is just one of the activities the D.A.R.E program puts on each year, helping to impress upon kids that they can have a really good time with friends without partaking in drugs or alcohol.

The annual party is made possible through donations to D.A.R.E. and fundraising activities. In Lincoln, the D.A.R.E. program is under the leadership of Lincoln Police Officer Christi Fruge.  The Logan County Sheriff's office also offers a D.A.R.E. program in outlying schools.  Members of the county D.A.R.E. program were also on hand on Friday.

When students finished lunch they were given free-time to do as they pleased. It was a dynamic flow though out the dining and court areas with
kids breaking off into groups for friend time, just hanging out on bleachers, playing volleyball or basketball and other physical activities.

 

 

 

Popular in one darkened corner students took turns singing Karaoke.
