Obituary
Raymond G. Brummett “The Fishing
Fool” born on February 28, 1937, passed away
peacefully at his home in Lincoln, on May 11, 2018,
surrounded by his loving family.
He was a 1955 graduate of East Richland High School,
Olney. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in
education from Eastern Illinois University in 1959.
He is a life member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.
He married Barbara Anne Cloonan on September 7,
1957. She preceded him in death. He is survived by
five children: Tony Brummett, Stephanie Brummett,
Tim Brummett, Jennifer (Jeff) Bergman, and Leslie
(Steve) Koetters; ten grandchildren: Austin and
Anthony Brummett, Mackenzie and Keagan Newhouse,
Brandon Brummett, Joey and Emma Bergman, Katie,
Lily, and Nicholas Koetters; his sisters: Linda
Brummett and Kathy Tomblinson; he was preceded in
death by his parents: William T. and Jennie B.
(Hubble) Brummett and his brother: Sonny Brummett.
Ray was an avid fisherman and Cardinal fan. He
served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He
began his teaching career in 1962, Fort Wainwright,
Alaska. In 1965 he helped form and was elected the
1st State President of The Alaska On-Base Education
Association. In 1966 he was elected President of The
Alaska Education Association, serving 2 terms. In
1968 he began teaching Industrial Arts at
Chester-East Lincoln School, where he later became
principal. In 1980, when his arm became too tired
from applying the Board of Education to his
student’s backsides, he started as a tool designer
at Eaton Corporation. In 1986, he was promoted to
supervisor of tool engineering and retired in 1999.

In retirement he worked with Crappie
USA, assisting with Crappie Tournaments throughout
the United States. He was a life member of the
National Education Association, 3rd and 4th degree
member of the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand
Knight and Faithful Navigator, Member of the
American Legion Post #89, serving 2 years as
Commander, member of AMVETS Post #45, served on
Carroll Catholic School Board and as a Lector of
Holy Family Catholic Church. He greatly enjoyed
cheering on the Cardinals in person at BUSCH Stadium
wearing his infamous rally squirrel hat.

Services for Raymond will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May
15, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev.
John Pham officiating. Visitation will be from
4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday May 14, 2018 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with a prayer service prior to visitation at 3:30.
Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery will follow the
service where full military rites will be accorded
by the American Legion Post #263.
Memorials may be made in Raymond’s name to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
