Segura, a 24-year-old Costa Rican, sprained his
medial collateral ligament, according to the newspaper. The
Post's Steven Goff reported that Segura received medical
attention on the practice field, walked off under his own power
but punched a fence in frustration as he exited.
D.C. United (1-5-2) sits in last place in Major League Soccer's
Eastern Conference, and Segura scored the goal in the club's
lone victory -- 1-0 over the visiting Columbus Crew on April 14.
It is his only goal of the season.
Prior to joining D.C. United last December, Segura played for
two Costa Rican club teams. He also has made three appearances
for the Costa Rica national team, but he was not named on the
squad for this summer's World Cup that was announced Monday.
D.C. United reportedly is awaiting completion of the biggest
acquisition in team history. Wayne Rooney, the all-time leading
scorer for Manchester United and the England national team, is
expected to join the club this summer after an up-and-down
season with Everton in the English Premier League.
