[May 17, 2018]  LINCOLN - The popular Summer Discovery Camps at the Atlanta Public Library are now open for registration. The Camps are supported by a generous grant from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation Mirza Arts and Culture Fund.

The summer will kick-off with a S.T.E.A.M camp led by Heather Rogers from June 25-29. The camp will run daily from 10:00AM-Noon and is open to children from 1st through 5th grades. A variety of creative projects will help develop group decision-making, individual reasoning, and imagination by focusing on a variety of skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Visual Art Camp led by Mary Sunday and Jayne Kindred will be held from July 9-13. Grades K-2 will meet daily from 1:30-3:00PM, and grades 3-5 will meet daily from 9:00-11:30AM. Participants will learn a variety of artistic techniques and styles, as well as explore the work of famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, and they will create their own original portfolios of work to be displayed at a concluding gallery show on Friday evening.

Finally, Jean Kerr and her team from Illinois Wesleyan University will return to lead Theatre Camp from July 16-20. Campers will develop their own scripts from existing material, learn improvisation and performance skills, make their own sets and costumes, and perform for the public on Friday evening. Grades 1-2 will meet daily from 9:00-10:00 a.m. and grades 3-6 daily from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..
