[May 25, 2018]    For the first time in the 79 years of the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, six players share the lead after the first round.

Scott McCarron, Wes Short Jr., Stuart Smith, Tim Petrovic, Barry Lane and Australia's Peter Lonard each shot 5-under-par 66 on Thursday at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.

The old record for most players sharing the Senior PGA first-round lead was five, set in 1981.

The tournament is the second major of the year on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, who last week captured his first major at the Regions Tradition, is tied for 45th at Harbor Shores after shooting 1 under par.

McCarron is looking to continue his strong play in Champions major events. He has placed among the top 10 in seven of the past 11 majors, including a victory last year in the Senior Players Championship.

Short, Smith, Petrovic, Lane and Lonard are each looking for their first PGA Tour Champions major win.

Smith, the Director of Golf at Somersett Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nev., is the first club pro to share the Senior PGA Championship lead since 2003. Two club pros have won the event in the modern era (since 1968), Jack Fleck in 1979 and Tom Wargo in 1993.
