On Tuesday morning, long-time supporter and volunteer for the Logan County Relay for Life Dennis Cooley worked to place this year's RFL goal thermometer up along Keokuk Street across the road from Lincoln College. The goal for this year’s Relay is $65,000. Teams have been busy since before the first of the year holding fundraisers and those fundraisers will continue right up to and beyond Relay day, which is June 16th.

[May 30, 2018]   LINCOLN - The Relay for Life of Logan County has erected a thermometer on the Lincoln College lot across from the campus on Keokuk Street.

The Goals for the 2018 Relay for Life of Logan County are: Gross Income $65,000. Net Income $55,300.; 24 Teams, 150 participating survivors and $30,000 in sponsorships. The progress on donations will be recorded on the thermometer as they are posted.

Invitations to Survivors who have registered will be mailed early June for the Survivor Dinner from 5:30 – 7:00 on Wednesday, June 13 in the Lincoln College Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium. Survivor shirts for those who have registered will be distributed that evening. Survivors who have not yet registered are encouraged to call Tonita Reifsteck 217-855-1645 or Esther Boward 217-445-2627.

The Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, June 16 inside at the Lincoln College Jack Nutt Arena beginning at 1:00 pm and is open to the public to help celebrate survivors of cancer and contribute to helping fund research to conquer this disease.

The Opening Program with Cameron Kurtz, master of ceremony introducing the program, ribbon cutting and introduction of the teams as they make the first lap around the track.

The Survivor Lap will begin at 2:00 following introduction of the 2018 Honorary Survivors Amy Weidhumer and Jolene Fellers. The Caregivers lap will immediately follow.

The track will be open for any and all walkers until the final lap prior to the closing ceremony at 11:00 p.m.

From 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. a lunch bar will be provided for the public and all attending the Relay by the Lincoln College Dietary department. This includes meat choices, salads, fruit and drink for $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, theme laps will be announced and various activities at each teams track site will offer their version of this year’s theme “Let’s Knock Cancer Out of This Game”.
