The Lincoln College Women’s Volleyball team completed their first
season of competition as a member of the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) with a road loss to the Missouri
			Baptist University Spartans.
The Spartans came into the match with a 29-3 record and ranked third
in the nation in the most recent NAIA National Poll.

Lincoln College put up some strong resistance, but was unable to
take a set from MBU and lost by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-21.

Despite the loss, Lincoln Head Coach Mark Tippett was positive about
his team’s performance. “The scores may not reflect it, but we
really played well against a very good team,” said Tippett. “Our
defenders kept the ball off the floor and we were able to run
offense in transition throughout the match. I can’t fault our effort
one bit. We certainly made MBU work for everything they got.”

Setters Emma Derry (Augusta) and Morgan Lolling (Lincoln) each had
11 set assists for Lincoln. Left side hitter Mikayla Seibert
(Mackinaw) led the team in kills with six while right side Hannah
Cameron (Lincoln) had five. Libero Melanie Murray (Chicago) recorded
a team-high 15 digs in the match. Emma Derry also reached
			double-digits in digs with 10.

The Lady Lynx finish their first season of varsity level play with a
final record of 17 wins and 17 losses.

LC is not eligible for post-season play this year as it is their
first season as a member of the NAIA. All first-year NAIA programs
must serve a one-year probation phase, which means Lincoln College
teams will not be eligible for post-season competition until the
			2019-2020 season.
“I am pleased with the way we represented ourselves this season,”
said Coach Tippett. “We took most of our losses in the first week of
the season and the last week. During both of those stretches we were
dealing with injuries and had to shuffle our line-ups, but we still
competed well. In the middle of the year we went 17-7 and showed
that we can win at this level.”

Lincoln projects to return all of their players from this year’s
roster, which Coach Tippett believes should give the Lady Lynx an
advantage going into next season. “We learned a lot this year, and I
am already looking forward to building on the success we had in 2018
			next season,” said Tippett.
