The Lady Lynx grabbed the lead mid-way through
the first quarter after a bucket by sophomore forward Kaleia
Monteiro (Rockford) put Lincoln up 6-4. LC ended the first
quarter up 24 to 14. St. Mary’s cut the lead to four at halftime
(30-26), but the second half belonged to LC as Coach Deronte
Polite’s team increased their lead to as many as 31-points on
their way to the win.
Kaleia Monteiro ended up the game with a double-double, leading
her team in points scored (26) and rebounds (19). Monteiro also
recorded three blocked shots. Junior guard Emoni Smith
(Indianapolis, IN) had a big night for Lincoln as well by
scoring 23 points and dishing out six assists.
Coach Polite was enthused by his player’s performance. “I’m very
excited about getting our first win of the season and our first
as an NAIA program. We have gotten better each game, and I saw
continued improvement tonight,” he said.
Polite had praise for the effort it took to get the win. “I
loved the production we got off the bench, particularly Samantha
Realford (Hazel Crest) and Kennedy Lolling (Lincoln),” said
Coach Polite. “And we shared the ball pretty well tonight,
totaling 22 assists. We still have a lot of things to clean up,
but tonight was an overall good night and a great team effort,”
he added.
Lincoln (1-3) will try to make it two-in-a-row on Saturday when
they host Governors State University at 1:00 PM.
