The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team won back-to-back games
hosted by the University of St. Francis (IL) over the weekend.
On Friday evening, LC bested Cardinal Stritch University (WI) 83-49.
Lincoln shot 48% from the floor and was perfect at the free-throw
line hitting on all 14 attempts in the game. The Lynx held a
ten-point lead at halftime and extended their advantage in the
second half to cruise to their fifth win of the season.
Lincoln senior Julian Powell (Baytown, TX) recorded another
double-double against CSU. Powell led the team in points scored with
22 and rebounds with 12. Trayvon Tyler (Rockford), Darnell Latham
Jr. (Chicago) and Deandre Freeman (Chicago) all reached
double-digits in points with Tyler scoring 17, Latham 15 and Freeman
11.
Lincoln was able to keep the good times rolling on Saturday against
the host school, St. Francis. LC captured the lead eight minutes
into the game when a Trayvon Tyler three-pointer put the Lynx up
12-10. Lincoln would not trail again in the game as they took a
10-point lead into the halftime break (34-24) then extended their
advantage to as many as 18 points in the second half. The final
score ended up 77-64.

Lincoln’s Lejavius Johnson, a 6”3” guard from Glennwood, Illinois,
had a huge game scoring a team high 30 points. Johnson went
11-for-18 from the field including hitting on five of his eight
three-point attempts. Darnell Latham Jr. was good for 15 points and
Julian Powell chipped in 12 to help LC move to 6 and 5 on the
season.

Lincoln coach Pat Lepper was pleased with the effort he saw from his
players at this event. “I am proud of how well we responded to the
challenge of playing six games on the road in a row,” said Coach
Lepper. “Two of the teams we lost to were nationally ranked and one
loss was by one point in double overtime,” he added.
Lepper is also happy with the approach his players are bringing to
the court. “Our play this weekend shows that this team is developing
a will to win, and it’s exciting to see the level of mental
toughness we are beginning to play with.”
Lincoln will return home for their next game on December 1st against
Indiana University Northwest. Tip- off is set for 1:00 PM.
