Lady Railers come from behind to defeat Taylorville

The Lady Railers Varsity Basketball Team defeated Taylorville 57-52 Thursday night at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium. It was Lincoln's first win of the season in the Apollo Conference.

Lincoln trailed 30-23 at the half but by the end of the third quarter, the Lady Railers had trimmed the deficit to 41-38.

A huge fourth quarter by senior Emma Konczyk, who scored 12 points in the final eight minutes of play, allowed the Lady Railers to overtake the Lady Tornadoes and come away with the 57-52 win.

Konczyk would lead the Lady Railers in scoring with 23 points. Madelyn Koehler added 14 points and Leah Schneider tossed in 11 points.

Lincoln head coach Taylor Rohrer explained the come-from-behind win after the game. "We amped up the defense and started hitting from the outside, which opened up Leah (Schneider) and Cadence (Presswood) for some layups," Rohrer explained. "We just kept chipping away at their lead and once we went ahead we never looked back."

Lincoln is now 1-1 in Apollo Conference play and 1-5 overall on the season.

Natalie Snyder led Taylorville with 23 points and she also hit the milestone of 1,000 career points scored in the first quarter. Snyder becomes just the eleventh girl in Taylorville school history to score 1,000 points.

The Lincoln JV team lost a close contest to Taylorville Thursday night. Tied late in the game at 27-27, the Lady Tornadoes pulled away to win 33-31 in the final minutes.

Ava Gorens led Lincoln with 13 points. Asia Sales tossed in 9 points.
