Per multiple media outlets, the Covington
County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office said the injury was not
life-threatening.
DuBose was reportedly working on his farm in the southern
Alabama town of Opp when the incident occurred. He drove himself
to a local hospital and was later airlifted about an hour away
to a medical facility in Dothan.
DuBose, 65, went 24-23 in four seasons (1997-2000) as Alabama's
coach. He was SEC Coach of the Year in 1999 when the Crimson
Tide went 10-3 and won the league title.
However, the Crimson Tide went just 3-8 the following season and
DuBose was fired after being involved in an inappropriate
relationship with his secretary. DuBose initially denied there
was a relationship, and the university later settled the woman's
sexual harassment claim for $360,000.
The program later went on NCAA probation for five years,
including a two-year bowl ban, for recruiting violations that
occurred on his watch.
DuBose was a defensive lineman at Alabama from 1972-74 under
Paul "Bear" Bryant.
