 The show follows shady businessman Harry Brock as he
heads to Washington with his ex-showgirl girlfriend Billie Dawn,
where Brock hopes to buy influence and shift the law to his side.
When Brock decides that Billie is too unrefined to mix with the DC
political set, he hires journalist Paul Verrall to make her appear
more intelligent. But a little education can go a long way, and
Billie may be smarter than her “friends” give her credit for. A
hilarious and timely send up of politics and perceptions.
The production will run Sept. 27, 28, 29 and October 11, 12, 13 at
7:30 p.m.; and September 30 and October 11 at 2:30 p.m., on the main
stage of the Johnston Center for the Performing Arts.
A recent Chicago Review stated: “So sure, it's called ‘Born
Yesterday.’ But Garson Kanin's 1946 comedy might as well be an
episode of ‘The Daily Show’ for all its applications to our own
topsy-turvy times. Then again, a cynic might point out that
Americans have always enjoyed all the democracy they can afford.”

The Lincoln College production features Jacqueline Ishmael in the
role of Billie Dawn and Kyle Plohr as Harry Brock.
Other cast members include: Sophie Michalski, Roland Williams,
Anyah Rudolph, Joe Ferrill, Leah Doneghue, Miguel Antonio Reyes and Mia Avila.
Guest director is Natalie Reiko. Stage manager is Myah Vlahogenis and assistant
stage manager is Angel Bussell.
Other productions planned for the year include “Titus | Civil War” – A
re-envisioning of Shakespeare’s “Titus Andronicus” set directly after the Civil
War, in the Hostick Theatre in November; “Somethings Afoot,” a musical based on
Agatha Christie’s “Ten Little Indians” in February on the Johnston Center main
stage; and one-act plays “Laundry and Bourbon” and “Lone Star” in April in the
Hostick lab theatre.
