Atlanta craft groups join to support children at St. Francis Children's Cancer Center

[October 03, 2018]    The Atlanta Needlework Guild, Atlanta Quilt Corner, and Crafty Misfits, donated 50 quilts, knit and crocheted hats, huggable friends, mug rugs, and totes for St. Francis Hospital Children’s Cancer Center. They also donated 100 knit, crocheted, and sewn, school supply bags.

This annual donation by the craft groups was initiated by a member of Atlanta Quilt Corner, that summers, at the Kentuckiania campground in Hopedale. An employee of St. Francis Hospital also summers at the campground and shared information regarding a need for the children in the St. Francis Children’s Cancer Center.

The Needlework Guild, Quilt Corner, and Crafty Misfits took up the challenge to provide needed and fun craft items for the children. The summer residents of the campground, donate all the school supplies and spent a Saturday in early September organizing and packing a tote for each child in the Cancer Center. The totes were delivered, the second week of September, to the hospital.

Atlanta Needlework Guild meets every Monday, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Community Room, Atlanta Manor, 201 N Howard St, Atlanta.

Atlanta Quilt Corner meets every Wednesday, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Rt 66 Memories Museum, 104 Arch Street, Atlanta.

Quilters also meet every Saturday, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Atlanta Memorial Community House, corner of 6th and Race streets, Atlanta.

If you can tie a knot, your skill will help us finish the 250 quilts we create each year.

Your schedule does not allow for weekly meetings? You can pick up needed supplies and create items, at your pace, at home. To help in the creation of knit, crochet, quilt, and/or sewn items, to donate to the St. Francis Children’s Cancer Center, please call, Donna Campbell; 217-960-6261.

All supplies, including patterns, are provided at no expense to the crafter. Projects are already started for 2019 and with your help we can again fulfill the needs of these special children.
