The Winnipeg Jets twice overcame
deficits and eventually came out on top in overtime, posting a 5-4
home victory over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night.
Jacob Trouba's goal at 2:54 of the extra period improved the Jets'
record to 5-0-1 on home ice this season. Winnipeg has a 10-2-0
record in its past 12 games against St. Louis.
Mark Scheifele led Winnipeg with two goals and two assists, and Ben
Chiarot had a goal and an assist.
Down 3-1 at the second intermission, the Jets drew even with two
goals in the opening four minutes of the third period before falling
behind again on a David Perron score at the 5:11 mark. At the 18:20
mark, however, a Dustin Byfuglien point shot led to a big rebound
for Bryan Little to convert for the equalizer.
Ryan O'Reilly collected three points on a goal and two assists for
St. Louis, and he quickly gave the Blues the lead with a goal just
47 seconds into the game. A Vince Dunn stretch pass from behind his
team's net found Perron down the right side, and Perron then passed
to O'Reilly streaking toward the goal for the center's second score
of the season.
O'Reilly's goal kicked off a dominant first period for St. Louis,
which outshot the Jets 18-6 in the opening 20 minutes. Colton
Parayko added to the damage with a point shot that beat Connor
Hellebuyck at the 10:57 mark.
The Jets did manage one goal in the period, with Scheifele scoring
on some unintentional help from Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.
During a Winnipeg power play, Scheifele passed from behind the
Blues' net, and the puck banked off Bouwmeester's skate and past
Jake Allen for the goal.

St. Louis extended its lead to 3-1 at 9:30 of the second period on a
power-play goal from Dunn. Winnipeg did play the Blues much more
evenly in the second period, however, then took control in the
third, outshooting the Blues 20-9.
The Jets have had success in the latter stages of games this season,
as 16 of their 29 goals have come after the opening two periods.
