During the workshop, students experienced a
series of hands-on interactive exercises often used in the business
school’s course offerings. Areas highlighted included marketing,
operations management, leadership, and strategy. The sessions were
led by Lincoln College’s business faculty.
The intent of the workshop, held Oct. 9, was to expose high school
students to some of the different areas of business. Thus, allowing
them to learn about the intricacies of business and potentially
spark interest in exploring business as a career.
Students took part in a variety of activities
designed to illustrate business principles and business disciplines,
these included:

-
A Marketing exercise where students reviewed various
marketing and branding principles, then interviewed each
other before creating a personal brand for themselves,
including a logo or slogan; and
-
“Robin Hood: Caught in a Profit Squeeze,” which retold the
story of Robin Hood as CEO of Sherwood Forest Corporation
dealing with falling profits.
The event was free to area high school students and
included lunch. Four area high schools and over forty students
participated in what will likely become an annual event hosted by
Lincoln College.
