The day began outside the shop with friends,
fellow business owners and members of the local business association
gathering around Jules Mason and her husband Chris for the cutting
ceremony.
Nila Smith led the ceremony noting the partnership with LDN and the
business association and congratulating the downtown businesses for
forming such an association.
Moving on, Smith noted that the day was truly all about Jules Flower
Shop. She stressed that it takes a lot of courage, hard work and
determination to open a new business, and it takes a lot of support
from the community to keep that new business growing. Smith
recounted to the group what Mason had said before the cut. Mason had
noted that in the first year there had been a lot of ups and downs,
but a lot of love had gone into building her business.
Among those on hand for the cut was Mount Pulaski Business
Association President Tricia Aylesworth.
Aylesworth commented that the business association
itself was pretty new, and was still working to see what it can do
to support local businesses. She noted that the association had done
a ribbon cut on its own earlier in the spring, and they realized
that they wanted to come back with a cut for Jules after the fact to
show the support of the association.
The next person to be introduced was Jules Mason. As part of that
introduction Mason’s husband Chris was recognized as a big
supporter. Jules had noted before the cut that she was a
‘one-man-band’ with help from Chris.
Mason kept her speech short and simple thanking everyone for coming
to the cut and especially thanking them for their continued support
of her and her shop over the past year.
The group posed for pictures, then after the traditional countdown
Mason with assistance from Aylesworth snipped the ribbon.
Afterward, everyone was invited inside the store for
a look around and a time to visit with the owner and share some
refreshments.
