Shawn Welch sentenced for Aggravated Robbery

[September 21, 2018]   On September 12, 2018, Shawn Welch was sentenced pursuant to a fully negotiated plea agreement to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Aggravated Robbery, a class 1 felony.

This sentence will be followed by 3 years of mandatory supervised release (formerly known as parole). Based upon his prior criminal history, Shawn Welch was sentenced as a class X offender.

Aggravated Robbery is committed when a person, while indicating by actions or words that he or she has a firearm, knowingly takes property from the person of another by threatening the imminent use of force.

On November 2, 2017, Lincoln Police were dispatched to Jimmy John’s located at 422 Keokuk Street. The night manager gave a statement that he had been robbed by a white male wearing blue jeans, a black sweatshirt, and black and white shoes. The manager stated that the suspect demanded the money from him and the suspect lifted up his shirt revealing a pistol in his waistband. The manager turned over the money and the suspect fled the scene.

Lincoln Police began an investigation which resulted in the eye witness identification of Shawn Welch as the suspect. Further investigation resulted in statements from associates of Shawn Welch that placed Shawn Welch in the area at the same time as the robbery. No firearm was located during the course of the investigation.
