Lincoln Junior High School girls softball season ended with sectional loss to Corpus Christi

The Lincoln Junior High School girls softball season came to an end on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Stanford Olympia Sectional. The Trojans lost to Bloomington Corpus Christi by a final score of 8-1.

Lincoln scored their only run of the game in the first inning when Riley Tungate led off with a double to centerfield and came around to score on an error.

The Saints scored a run off LJHS starter Cara Farnam in the first inning, added four more runs in the fourth inning and plated three runs in the seventh inning.

The Trojans tallied five hits in the game. Riley Tungate led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and the run scored. Chloe Johnston, Nevaeh McCree and Cara Farnam also had hits for Lincoln.

Cara Farnam took the loss from the circle. Farnam allowed eight runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. She struck out 14 batters to end her stellar junior high career.

Emily York earned the win for Corpus Christi. York struck out 16 Trojans.

The LJHS Trojans still had a terrific season with a 19-7 record under Head Coach Emily Kohl and her assistant, Amber Jordan. Coach Kohl said after the loss, "I wish the season wouldn't have ended on Saturday. The girls had worked so hard all season. We had two innings where we had some mistakes but the girls never gave up. I am so proud of each player and can't wait for next season!"



The Corpus Christi Saints did advance to the IESA Class AA State Tournament at Champions Field in Normal. They lost in the first round 8-3 to Edwardsville Lincoln and finished the season with an 18-6 record. Edwardsville Lincoln would finish second in the state tournament. Frankfort Summit Hill is the 2018 Class AA Girls Softball Champion.
