Lindenwood-Belleville opened up the scoring in
the 34th minute of the first half, but Lincoln responded a
little over 4 minutes later on an unassisted goal from the
team’s leading scorer, Adrian Roman (Waukegan).
Both teams played strong defensively the rest of the match and
allowed very few shots on goal. Regulation time would end with a
1-1 tie score.
In the Golden Goal Overtime, Lincoln would have first chance to
end the match, but the shot was saved by the LBU goalie.
Lindenwood-Belleville's first shot into OT would be saved by
goalie Pierson Fleming (Springfield), but the rebound from the
save would be tucked away to end the match 2-1.
LC Coach Ben Messena was disappointed in the loss, but proud of
how well his team competed. "We played a very tough team who has
been top of their league for the past few years,” said Massena.
“We competed and had chances to win, but didn't take them well.
This is a game that shows we can be a top team in the area and
should be motivation to keep working to get better each day."
Lincoln (2-5) will be in action next on October 2nd at Harris
Stowe State University.
