Ducks general manager Bob Murray announced the
news Wednesday, two days after Perry sustained damage to his
medial collateral ligament and meniscus during warmups prior to
a preseason game against the Arizona Coyotes.
If Perry returns at the 20-week mark, the timeframe Murray
mentioned, he might be back for the last 26 games of the Ducks'
82-game regular season. Anaheim opens play Oct. 3 with a road
game against the San Jose Sharks.
Perry, 33, won the 2010-11 Hart Trophy, given to the NHL's most
valuable player. A four-time All-Star, he played on the Ducks'
2007 Stanley Cup championship squad.
Last season, Perry had 17 goals and 32 assists in 71 games, his
lowest goal and point totals in a full NHL season since 2006-07.
He led the league with 50 goals in 2010-11 and has topped 30
goals six times in his career.
In 13 NHL seasons, all with Anaheim, Perry has 353 goals and 388
assists in 901 games.
According to multiple media outlets, Perry is making $9 million
this year, and his contract carries an $8,625,000 salary-cap hit
through 2021.
