Courier has served in the role for the past
eight years. His resignation comes less than two weeks after the
U.S. lost 3-2 to Croatia in the Davis Cup semifinals.
"Eight years is a good long run, and it is time for new
leadership for the team," Courier wrote to ESPN in an email.
The U.S. went 10-8 in World Group play and twice reached the
semifinals under Courier.
Courier was part of two Davis Cup-winning squads as a player
(1992, 1995). The former World No. 1 player is a member of the
International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The U.S. has not won the Davis Cup title since 2007.
