[September 28, 2018]    Jim Courier has resigned as captain of the United States Davis Cup team, the U.S. Tennis Association announced Thursday.

Courier has served in the role for the past eight years. His resignation comes less than two weeks after the U.S. lost 3-2 to Croatia in the Davis Cup semifinals.

"Eight years is a good long run, and it is time for new leadership for the team," Courier wrote to ESPN in an email.

The U.S. went 10-8 in World Group play and twice reached the semifinals under Courier.

Courier was part of two Davis Cup-winning squads as a player (1992, 1995). The former World No. 1 player is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The U.S. has not won the Davis Cup title since 2007.
