Rafael Reyna, a father of four, is on life
support at a local hospital with head injuries, including a
fractured skull, according to his wife.
Christel Reyna said she was on the phone with her husband while
he was at the stadium when she heard him arguing with someone
and then heard a cracking sound.
"I was hearing the arguing happening and then I heard like a
smack, a crack ... It sounded like a baseball bat, and then I
heard him start moaning," she told KABC.
Witnesses told security that another fan had struck him. Police
reportedly are looking for a man in his 20s who fled in a white
SUV.
The Dodgers addressed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
"Last night, an altercation occurred suddenly between two men
who were leaving the stadium. One of the men was injured as a
result of the altercation. A witness immediately reported the
incident to stadium personnel, and emergency medical technicians
were promptly dispatched to provide medical assistance at the
scene. The matter is now being investigated by the Los Angeles
Police Department, and the Dodgers are cooperating fully with
the investigation."
Dodger Stadium was the scene of an ugly Opening Day incident in
2011, when San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was brutally
attacked and wound up in a medically induced coma. Stow, now 50,
was a paramedic at the time of the attack. Now, he still
requires crutches to walk and talks at schools about the dangers
of bullying.
Two men were charged in that attack and later pleaded guilty in
2014.
