Berlin gives Mount Pulaski first loss of the season

New Berlin defeated Mount
Pulaski 13-5 Monday afternoon, giving the Hilltoppers their
first loss on the season. New Berlin has always had a solid
baseball program and now that Franklin and Waverly co-op with
them, the Pretzels are stacked.
New Berlin built a 6-0 lead over
Mount Pulaski going into the third inning.
The Hilltoppers scored two runs
in the top the third inning as Todd Kelly and Drew Martin
walked, advanced on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a
2-run single by Logan DeRight.
New Berlin led 6-2 heading into
the top of the fourth when the Hilltoppers threatened again and
came around to score three runs. Kelly and Martin came up big
with RBI doubles for the Hilltoppers. Martin also came around to
score on a wild pitch to make the score 6-5.

The Pretzels plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning
and really broke open the game with five runs scored in the
bottom of the fifth inning. New Berlin held off the Hilltoppers
in the late innings and took the game by a score of 13-5.
Drew Martin led Mount Pulaski at
the plate with a 2-for-4 performance.
Todd Kelly took the loss for
Mount Pulaski. He pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing
six runs on three hits. Kelly struck out five batters.
Lucas Kuhlman and Grant Davis also pitched in relief for Mount
Pulaski.
Christian Knox was the
winning pitcher for New Berlin. He struck out seven Hilltoppers.
Mount Pulaski's record is now
5-1.
