April LCA artshow explores "Green Inspirations"

For their April exhibit, Logan County Arts members will explore Green Inspirations. The show will debut with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln. In addition to viewing the artworks and enjoying refreshments, visitors will be able to discuss the works with the artists themselves.

The group chose their theme because green is a versatile color, with multiple cultural and symbolic associations, so each artist was able to take his or her inspiration in a unique direction. Laura Elliott’s delicate chalk pastel drawings of plants are reminiscent of classic botanical prints. She says her goal is “to reflect the green growth of nature that comes with the infusion of Spring.” Prints of the drawings will be available at the opening.

Bev Noble, who turns her talents to both photography and painting, will display examples of both media. With a special affection for nature photography, she has stunning Illinois landscapes to choose from. She will also present a lively abstract of flowing greens, inspired by the spontaneity of Spring.

Pam Moriearty will be going in a different direction with an assemblage including green tones. “As a Master Naturalist, I think “eco” when I think of green,” she says. “The artwork is a tribute to the world’s forests. I also like to take nature photographs that zoom in on tiny, secret gems we might miss on a walk, but which speak of Nature’s resiliency and rebirth.”

Jason Hoffman works his magic on canvas to make it seem like a solid sheet of metal. For this exhibit he is using bronze patinas, which produce the soft light greens we see in the Statue of Liberty.

In response to the “Green Inspirations” theme of the Logan County Arts April exhibit, artist Laura Elliott created a delicate rendition of tendrils and leaves, an evocation of Spring.  Her chalk pastels, as well as works by other local artists, will be on view at the Lincoln Art Institute from April 11 to May 4, 2019. 

In a totally different and more sinister interpretation of green, Moses Pinkerton will show an acrylic that he describes as abstract and fluid, and says depicts “the suffering brought on by envy.”

Other LCA and local artists will also participate in the exhibit. After opening night, the artworks will be available for viewing until May 4.
