Komnick purchased Blades and moved it from Fifth
Street in Lincoln to a large modern salon at 241 Madigan Drive.
Since that time, Komnick has worked to expand the business offering
a large variety of hair and skin care products, health supplements,
and even clothing, shoes, boots, and accessories. At the same time,
she has worked to maintain top quality hair care with a large number
of stylists who are always busy. From cuts, curls and colors to
manicures and pedicures to relaxation and full body detox, the
business offers everything needed to made a person feel like new in
no time at all.
At the ribbon cut on Friday it was noted that it takes a great deal
of work to keep a business going and growing for a number of years.
While new businesses are of great importance to our community, it is
also extremely important that the community recognize and celebrate
longevity in a business.
On hand supporting Vanessa were her husband Josh and four-year-old
daughter Reece, along with other family members. Several members of
her staff were on hand including Aubrey Letterle, Lindsay Tibbs,
Ashley Jackson, Callie Harbor, Bree Goodman and Sydney Dial. Staff
who were unable to attend were mentioned as well and that included
Emily Neuhaus, Jade Hasselbrook and Makayla Green. Others on hand
included several friends and family, some who stood behind the
ribbon with Vanessa and a large number who stood in front of the
ribbon with cameras to catch the momentous occasion.
From the city of Lincoln, newly elected soon to be sworn in
alderwoman Kathy Horn was on hand, along with City Clerk Peggy
Bateman, City Administrator Beth Kavelman and Lincoln Mayor Seth
Goodman. Former Chamber Ambassador Marcia Cook and LDN ribbon cut
crew members Karen Hargis, Roy Logan and Nila Smith rounded out the
group.
As the cut proceeded Komnick offered up a few words.
She began by thanking her husband “for all the craziness,” over the
past 15 years. She also said she wanted to acknowledge her wonderful
staff who have been very supportive over the years and said that she
could not succeed without their help and support.
Mayor Goodman also congratulated Komnick and noted that to keep a
business going and growing for 15 years was admirable and he
congratulated her on her success.
After the speakers finished, Komnick manned the
scissors and at the count down snipped the ribbon.

In addition to the ribbon cut there
were several activities going on at the shop throughout the
afternoon.
One of the most notable was an act of love that would
be performed by four-year old Reece Komnick. Reece had very long
blonde hair and she decided that on this day she was going to have
her hair cut and she would be donating it to Locks of Love.
In addition, there was a chance to spin the discount
wheel for special pricing on goods and services and the opportunity
to enter a raffle for a fantastic prize as part of a special
fundraiser.
Guests were invited to stay for refreshments that
included cookies and a beautiful five-layer cake.
Everyone was also encouraged to come back later in the
afternoon/evening for the “Polish for a Purpose” fundraiser for St.
Judes. Komnick and a group of friends from the area will be
participating in the St. Jude Run this summer. This year though,
instead of running from Lincoln to Peoria, they will run from
Memphis, Tennessee to Peoria. The run will take about three to four
days. Each member of the running group is working to raise $3,000
for St. Jude’s.
After the cut, as guests lingered enjoying the snacks
and shopping the boutique, each person was given a gift bag with
hair and skin care products inside, as a thank you for coming out
and joining in the celebration.
Congratulations to Vanessa and her staff, and best wishes for the
next 15 years!
