Tornadoes can happen any time of the year but
normally reach their peak in the spring months. However, tornadoes
are not the only server weather concern. According to the NOAA, over
the last 20 years, the United States averaged 51 annual lightning
strike fatalities, placing it just behind flooding deaths.
With lightning, server storms so prevalent in the
spring, April is a great time to develop an action plan to protect
you and your family from server weather injury.
Would you like to have a better understanding of tornadoes,
thunderstorms, lightning, and other types of severe weather? If so,
consider attending a Severe Weather Webinar on April 25, 1:30-3:00
p.m. at the Logan County Extension office in Lincoln.
University of Illinois Extension Educator and weather
instructor Duane Friend will cover current research on tornadoes and
lightning, types of tornadoes and thunderstorms, information on
tornadic winds, damage and protection, and interesting facts on
tornadoes, thunderstorms and lightning.
The webinar is free to attend, but registration is required. The
registration deadline is April 24.
